Finding something fun – and free- to bring the children to during the summer is never easy. However, the Montclair Department of Recreation is offering three family-friendly movie nights that are free and open to the public! The Montclair Department of Recreation will host a total of three free outdoor movie screenings of popular movies this summer in June and July. Two of the outdoor movie screenings will be “flick and float” nights, with one held at Mountainside Pool and the second at Nishuane Pool, to allow movie-goers to cool off in the pool while the movies are playing.

The first outdoor movie screening is coming up on Friday, June 26 at Edgemont Park, where Alexander and the Terrible No Good Very Bad Day will be screened at 8:30 p.m. The next two movies will be Flick and Float movies in July. The first will be on Friday, July 10 at Mountainside Pool showing Dolphin Tale 2 at 8:45 p.m., and the pool will remain open until 8:30 p.m. The second Flick and Float screening will be on Friday, July 24 at the Nishuane Pool, showing Earth to Echo at 8:45 p.m., and the pool will remain open until 8:30 p.m.

According to the Montclair website, montclairnjusa.org, “The Montclair Department of Recreation & Cultural Affairs offers year-round recreational, athletic and cultural programs for all ages and abilities. The Department serves the interests and welfare of all residents through programs that encourage healthful and active lifestyles, provide opportunities for learning and enrichment, and help foster a sense of community. The Department strives to offer a wide variety of activities through innovative programs and cooperative ventures in order to continue building recreational opportunities, while enhancing the quality of life for Montclair residents.”

Currently, the Essex Pool is open on weekends only until June 21. All three pools – Essex, Nishuane and Mountainside – will open for the season on Tuesday, June 23. Residents can buy pool badges at the Recreation Department and at Register.CommunityPass.net; badges will not be sold at the pools on site.

The Montclair Department of Recreation is located at the Township of Montclair Municipal Building on the first floor at 205 Claremont Avenue in Montclair.
