The Montclair Art Museum, located on South Mountain Avenue, is a place for people of all ages. The museum hosts events throughout the year for many different groups of people, and there are great things to see throughout the summer! Do you enjoy portrait drawings? Visit MAM on July 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to take part in the portrait drawing workshop.
According to the Montclair Art Museum’s website, montclairartmuseum.com, “The foundation of a painted portrait is a solid understanding of rendering a likeness through drawing. In this one-day workshop, students will work from a live model as we explore the major forms of the head and the individual features of the face. The goal of the workshop is for each student to gain stronger control of form and value as we complete a realistic portrait sketch in one session. We will be creating heightened drawings using hard and soft pencils and white chalk on toned paper. Visit montclairartmuseum.org for a list of supplies.”
Admission to the portrait workshop is $125 or $105 for members. The Solarplate Etching program takes place at the Montclair Art Museum, which is located at 3 South Mountain Avenue in Montclair and is open on Wednesdays through Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. The museum is closed in observance of holidays, so be sure to check out the website for any closings before you make your summer holiday plans.
Entry to the Montclair Art Museum is $12 for nonmember adults, $10 for seniors over 65 and students with ID, free for members and free for children under 12.
The Montclair Art Museum also has art studio space that can be rented out for parties and other events. In addition, the third floor has a gallery, family learning lab and digital media lab. The lower level also has a children’s arcade gallery and art school arcade gallery where the art made from those who have visited the museum hang on the wall.
The museum brings together an assortment of different art galleries to show the wide range of art across different centuries. With a combination of modern and contemporary Art, eighteenth and nineteenth Century American Art and Native American art, the museum houses pieces by George McNeil, Jack Whitten, Edward Middleton Manigault and Van Dearing Perrine.
The Montclair Art Museum may not be as large as The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, but the art that is displayed in this museum offers just as much insight into art culture. Be sure to take advantage of this staple of culture in Montclair this summer!
