YMCA of Montclair Run fundraiser.
The 33rd Annual Montclair Run to raise money for scholarships is this Sunday, June 7, and it’s not too late to sign up. All proceeds for the run go towards scholarships for the community, so make sure you get involved in this great weekend fundraiser!
Hosted by the YMCA of Montclair and the Montclair Recreation Department, the run features a two mile fun run/walk followed by a 10K (6.2 mile) race. It starts and ends at the YMCA of Montclair at Park Street, located at 25 Park Street in Montclair. If you’re not into running, there will also be events such as a health and wellness fair, DJ, sports massages by Elements Massage, music, activities for kids and a moonwalk – or you can just spectate and support the runners from the sidelines.
The YMCA page for the event states, “Both organizations are dedicated to helping the community improve their health and wellness. The Montclair Run is a great way for everyone to kick off the start of the summer. More than 1,400 runners, walkers, volunteers and spectators of all ages are expected to participate.” Visit the page for more information about the event and details of what to expect.
This year’s honorary race starter is Senegal Olympic track coach and spring specialist Dr. Roosevelt Weaver. The full schedule for the day is as follows:
- 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. – Registration
- 8:30 a.m. – two mile fun run/walk
- 9:30 a.m. – 10K race
- 10:45 a.m. – two mile award ceremony
- 11:00 a.m. – 10K award ceremony
- 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. – family fun day activities, various events taking place
Entry fees for the two mile fun run/walk are $28 for adults and $18 for youths aged 16 and under. For the 10K run, it’s $33 for adults and $25 for youths. You can register in person at Fleet Feet Sports, located at 603 Bloomfield Ave., Montclair through June 6 or on race day inside the YMCA of Montclair, beginning at 7:00 a.m. For an informational brochure and to download a registration form, go to montclairymca.org.
All prizes will be awarded by Fleet Feet Sports. Awards will be given out to the following groups:
- Two mile and 10K: Awards to first, second and third place overall male and female winners
- 10K awards go to first, second and third place male/female finishers in each age group: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and over
This once-a-year run is a great way to have fun and give back to the community at the same time, so get those running shoes out and have a great time!
