The recently announced Montclair Film Festival (MFF) has marked calendars all over town as moviegoers eagerly await this year’s line up. At the beginning of March the MFF announced The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller is expected to go live on May 7, 2015. Written by Academy Award nominee and director Sam Green, The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller is the story of Buckminster Fuller’s career as a futurist, architect, engineer, inventor and author.

Sam Green will narrate the film on stage while also cueing images to appear on a screen behind him. Along with Green, legendary indie-rock band Yo La Tengo will be performing their original soundtrack for the film. The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller is a one-of-a-kind “live documentary.”

Sam Green was nominated for an Academy Award in 2004 for his documentary The Weather Underground, which tells of a group of men and women who attempted to ferociously overthrow the United States government during the 1960s and ’70s. This widely admired documentary has been screened around the world and broadcasted on PBS. The Weather Underground was also included in the Whitney Biennial and premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Green has several documentaries under his belt, all stemming from his undergrad education at the University of Michigan and his Masters in Journalism from the University of California. Green studied documentary with praised filmmaker Marlon Riggs.

The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller would not be complete without the astounding sound of Yo La Tengo. Thirty years ago, three friends from Hoboken, N.J. started what is now one of the most renowned and respected indie-rock bands in America. It is understood that the band felt it was important to build a career that was entirely up to them and because of that they continue to be highly successful. Playing in both small and large venues across the United States, Yo La Tengo appears to be looking forward to the next 30 years.

The Montclair Film Festival has proven to be popular and is entering its fourth year in production. This year’s festival will take place from May 1-10. The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller will take place at the Wellmont Theater in Montclair on May 7. Tickets range between $25-$35 and are available now at www.montclairfilmfest.org. The entire lineup for this year’s festival will be announced on April 2 and tickets for MFF members and sponsors go on sale April 8. Tickets for the general public will be available April 12.
