According to The New York Times, “If there is a string quartet currently in circulation that produces a more beautiful sound than the Shanghai Quartet, the name doesn’t immediately come to mind.”

Pianist Wu Han is the artistic director of Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and “one of the most esteemed classical musicians in the world today, for a program including Dvořák s ebullient, exuberant Second Piano Quintet, Schumann’s Piano Quintet in E-flat Major, op. 44, and Haydn’s String Quartet in D Major, op. 20, no. 4,” according to the performance’s event page.

The entire performance will last for approximately 125, with one intermission during the show.

The Shanghai Quartet will be performing on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 3 p.m. Tickets are available online at or at the Kasser Theater box office for $20. Undergraduate students at Montclair State also receive one free ticket to the show with a valid student I.D.

Refreshments are available at the concession stand before the performance but no food or drink is permitted inside the theater at any time. For light foods and coffee, Cafe Diem is located in close proximity to the theater and connected to the library. For a full menu available 24/7, the Red Hawk Diner is located on the far end of campus.

Parking is available in the Red Hawk Deck as well as the Transit Parking Deck across campus. Public transportation that runs directly in front of the Kasser Theater is also available.
