On Saturday, March 23rd, family and friends from across the U.S. gathered in Montclair to commemorate the 4th annual Clem Taylor Scholarship Fundraiser. The award symbolizes a partnership between the Taylor family and the Montclair Scholarship Fund and provides a $10,000 scholarship to a deserving Montclair High School graduate. This year, marking the fifth anniversary of Clem’s passing, the event was held at the Annex on Frink Street. This past Saturday night, guests enjoyed a wonderful evening of food and drink and live and silent auctions. Tim Stack, a lifelong friend of Clem, as well as a writer and comedian, returned to administer the auction.

The fundraising event is organized by a wonderful team of Clem’s friends, with his widow, Hilary Rosenthal Taylor at the helm of the ship. The committee works tirelessly for months in order to garner the amazing auction items, while relying on the immense generosity from friends and family, and the enirety of the Montclair community in providing prizes. Local artists and businesses played a big role in the night by providing auction items, such as photographer Eve Mahaney, artist Carol Cohn, and Local Coffee.

The Taylor family, along with the Montclair Scholarship Fund, has turned tragedy into success, celebrating the life of a great producer who boasted nearly 40 years of experience as a renowned journalist. Over the years, these fundraising events have allowed for amazing students to be recognized and rewarded for their hard work. This year, the first recipient of the Clem Taylor scholarship, Dylan Metsch-Ampel, will graduate from Bates College. Following Dylan will be Eli Zeigler (University of Southern California ‘20), Simone Rembert (Vassar College ‘21) and Maia Mizrahi (University of Southern California ‘22).

On Saturday, Hilary Rosenthal Taylor expressed her gratitude for the event, her pride in the past recipients, as well as her happiness in having the opportunity to honor her husband’s legacy in such a profound way.
