Toast is all about peace, love and pancakes.
Toast (the restaurant, not the bread!) has been satisfying its customers since May 2007. Located in Montclair, proud owner Amy Russo Harrigan had only one thing in mind when opening the restaurant: pancakes. This inspiration explains their sweet mantra, “Peace, Love, Pancakes.” Recently, Amy expanded her business to a second location in Asbury Park. Both sites have the same menu and every dish is prepared with the same local ingredients, the first being love!
Toast is the kind of place that feels like home. The atmosphere is peaceful and the staff offers a sense of family. Regardless of whether you’re a regular or a newbie, the staff does their best to greet you on a first name basis and engage in friendly conversation.
Unique to the Toast experience is their interior design. The scene is set like an old, traditional home with a beautiful, eye-catching oak staircase. The tables are set with empty mason jars awaiting their fill of freshly brewed iced tea, thirst quenching lemonade or one of Toast’s specialty drinks such as an iced French toast latte, (to die for!).
The food could be described as a number of yummy adjectives, but to keep it real, everything was just unbelievably tasty. Of course I had their famous pancakes but I also ordered a few more items to see for myself what the buzz was all about. So what if I was a table for one? I ordered as if I was a table of 6!
I ordered three light and fluffy pancakes: one plain, one chocolate chip and last, red velvet. I also ordered their most popular item on the menu: Huevos Rancheros. This includes two fried eggs, cheese, cilantro, tomatillo sauce and frijoles all packed inside two tortillas, topped with sour cream. If I could eat to no end, I would have ordered two more in a heartbeat. Every ingredient is delightfully fresh and heartwarming.
