Just a little piece of Veggie Heaven!
On the corner of Valley Road and Lorraine Avenue sits a very special restaurant in Montclair. Since 2005, Veggie Heaven has been serving up Pan-Asian vegetarian fare to the delight of vegans and vegetarians in and around Montclair. From appetizers to desserts, everything on the menu is vegan. Textured soy protein is the main ingredient in all of their “veggie meat” dishes, and they also use 100 percent vegetable oil.
In the past five years, Veggie Heaven has won three reader’s choice awards for best vegetarian restaurant. Entrees like General Tso’s chicken and sesame chicken are the most popular dishes on the menu, perhaps because they’re the most recognized by average Chinese food lovers. It is hard to tell that the chicken nuggets and roast pork appetizers are actually not meat. These dishes are traditionally prepared and will surprise even the most hard-core meat eater.
Veggie Heaven’s unique preparation of their “faux meat” dishes tastes remarkably like the real thing. Sometimes referred to as “soy meat alternative,” these dishes make for an excellent introduction to any new veggie meat eater. They also offer a variety of fresh vegetarian dishes that are healthy, flavorful, and insanely delicious. Their selection of vegan deserts are definitely must haves; my personal favorite is the carrot cake.
By now, we have all heard the medical rhetoric that links heavy meat consumption with the growing number of health risks across the country. Average Americans have become better educated on the key factors related to these risks, and have responded by adjusting their dietary habits. The fast food industry has also followed suit. Many have already joined the movement toward healthier living by including healthier menu choices and caloric counts.
Flaunting a wide range of healthy eats, Veggie Heaven has always been at the forefront of the recent healthy lifestyle boom. Lunchtime specials at Veggie Heaven are a wise choice for frugal college students looking for a healthy meal. From 11:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. you can sit among the locals and have a nicely proportioned entrée for less than $7. When you don’t feel like cooking, you can sit with your family and enjoy a delicious, healthy dinner without breaking your pockets; and with the great variety of items on the menu, it is sure to please every member of your family.
I also can’t forget to mention the impeccable service at Veggie Heaven. The staff is extremely friendly and willing to answer any questions that you may have about the menu. David, the restaurant’s manager, is almost always there, and he will meet you with a warm, kind smile that pretty much sums up the atmosphere of this unique place.
