Willie Nile sings away at the Outpost.
The holidays may be over and things are back to business as usual. That is no reason to not keep cheerful spirits alive. Robert Anthony Noonan, much better known as Willie Nile, will bring his youthful energy, husky tenor and rocking tunes to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation Church of Montclair. He is going to start the new year and the new season of Outpost in the Burbs shows right on Friday, Jan. 10.
The Buffalo native, who currently resides in New York City, has a great sound. It could be described as akin to Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi. Jovi was the former of whom Nile has performed several numbers with live. Willie Nile has grown up in a musical family, namely his grandfather and uncle, who respectively played vaudeville piano and boogie-woogie music.
Willie Nile also has performed with legendary and modern luminaries alike, including The Who, Carole King, Tori Amos, Joan Osborne, Barenaked Ladies and many others. His studio album discography spans from 1980 until just last year when he released the positively-acclaimed American Ride on June 25. Some numbers off that album include “Life on Bleecker Street,” “Sunrise in New York City,” “Holy War” and “The Crossing.” Some old favorites include ‘Vagabond Moon,’ Renegades,’ and ‘On the Road to Calvary’ which is his tribute to the late singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley.
Willie Nile’s tickets are $25 in advance and $28 on the day of the show. They can be purchased at Keil’s Pharmacy on Valley Road and Studio042 on Bloomfield Avenue. They can also be purchased online at ticketleap.com. There is additional fee for this service of $2.25. As always, the doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8:00 p.m. Parking is available on Church Street in the lot next to the rear of the church.
For those looking for a bite to eat before the show, some great places to consider are Manny’s Diner on Church Street, Red Eye Cafe on Walnut Street and Trend Coffee and Tea House. All are located on Bloomfield Avenue.
For those with healthier tastes, there are numerous options. They include the Manhattan Juice Bar and Cafe and Fin Raw Bar and Kitchen. They are both located on Glenridge Avenue. HLS (Health, Love, and Soul) is located on Bloomfield Avenue. Le Saluben is located on Walnut Street. For those with the finer and more daring tastes in dining. Here are a handful of a variety of gastropubs and ethnically-oriented eateries. Pig and Prince at the Lackawanna Plaza, as well as Chatni, Mausam, Nori and Greek Taverna, all four of which are located on Bloomfield Avenue.
