Ralphie May brings comedy to the Wellmont.
It’s that time of year again when spring is starting to roll around, allowing more people to emerge from the comfort of their homes and returning back to the nightlife scene. As you start to plan what you’re going to do for the next few Fridays, going to see a show right in Montclair is convenient, enjoyable and affordable. So, why not attend a show on Friday, March 28 at the Wellmont Theater to watch comedian Ralphie May lay down some jokes that will surely get to your funny bone?
Born in Tennessee and raised in Arkansas, Ralphie May got his start in comedy at 17 years old. After winning a contest, he opened up for his comedian idol, Sam Kinison. Kinison told him that in order to better his skills, he should move to Houston, Texas. With that, May attended the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston, and soon after moved to Los Angeles to start his career.
Since then, he has been a part of the first season of Last Comic Standing (2003), finishing in second place underneath Dan Phan. He has appeared on The Wayne Brady Show and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, which is now taken over by Jimmy Fallon. Ralphie May also performed on The Big Black Comedy Show (2005), being the only white person to participate in the show’s history.
As for his solo work, he has a comedy album called Just Correct, only $4.95 on Amazon. He also recorded four comedy specials, such as Girth of a Nation, Prime Cut, Austin-tatious and Too Big to Ignore, all of which can be found on Amazon at a cheap price. Tickets are are available online through livenation.com. They can also be bought at the box office the day of the show. Ticket prices range from $25-$35 with additional fees. The doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the show starts at 8:00 p.m.
After the show at the Wellmont Theater, there are a lot of great restaurants to visit in the area. If you are a fan of Asian food, try Spice II Thai restaurant, Chatni Indian restaurant and Azora Japanese are all great stops. If you are in the mood for something else, try Acappello Ristorante or Cuban Pete’s might be right for you. Be sure to get there on time for a good parking spot! Some parking is available in the lot across from the theater, and additional parking can be found along sidestreets.
So, come on down to the Wellmont next Friday for a night of laughter and memories to be made while watching May do his thing.
