The Blues Brothers make their way to The Wellmont Theater!
The Wellmont Theater is proud to announce one of the first shows of March: The Blues Brothers. The Blues Brothers event is on March 4 at 8 p.m. and will welcome Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi to the stage. Expect to indulge in a night of laughter by two great performers known all over the world for their work.
Aykroyd is an Academy Award nominated and Emmy Award winning actor, comedian, musician, writer and business entrepreneur. Before he pursued acting, he studied criminology at Canada’s Carleton University and unfortunately dropped out before obtaining his degree.
His first works as a comedian consisted of various Canadian nightclubs. In 1975, Aykroyd became a regular on Saturday Night Live because of his political satire and unbelievable impersonations of Presidents Nixon and Carter. Along with SNL cast members, it led to memorable duos such as Two Wild and Crazy Guys with Steve Martin and The Blues Brothers with John Belushi. His recent films include 50 First Dates (2004) and I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry (2007), both with Adam Sandler.
“He was so funny in these movies. They are more situational comedies, using things like witty responses,” said Brandon Major, a student at Rutgers University who is fan of comedic movies.
Aykroyd has been inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame and received an honorary Doctor of Literature degree from his former college, Carleton University. After successfully making a name for himself in Hollywood, Aykroyd took an interest in business. He founded the House of Blues, along with many notable music and Hollywood personalities, being the second largest live music performer in 2004, which was soon sold to concert promoter, Live Nation. In 2007, he announced his $11 million dollar winery, The Dan Aykroyd Winery. The entire concept was green friendly featuring solar panels and environmental water management systems.
Belushi is known for being a shameless performer. Belushi seeked instant recognition on his role in Edward Zwick’s film, About Last Night, with stars Rob Lowe and Demi Moore. In 1983, he then joined the cast of Saturday Night Live for two years. His recent work include MGM’s Return to Me (2000) and Showtime’s Who Killed Atlanta’s Children? (2000). Belushi is also familiar with Broadway’s stage as he recently took part in Born Yesterday (2011). You can expect to be on the road singing with his own band, the Sacred Hearts, in addition to doing many voiceovers for film, television and commercials. To add to his repertoire, Belushi’s first book, Real Men Don’t Apologize, discusses how to do just about everything right.
