Celebrity Nerd-Off for the Montclair Film Festival.

The organizers of the Montclair Film Festival recently announced that on Nov. 21, Stephen Colbert and J.J. Abrams will be taking the stage together at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, NJ. Roughly 11 miles away from Montclair, the NJPAC will be hosting the event, “Stephen Colbert and J.J. Abrams: Celebrity Nerd-Off!”

Stephen Colbert is the executive producer, host and writer of the incoming The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Formerly, he was the executive producer, host and writer of the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning series, The Colbert Report, that aired on Comedy Central. The Colbert Report ran for nine years and has won a total of six Emmy Awards.

J.J. Abrams is a writer, director and producer of very successful television series and films. Some of his biggest films consist of Star Trek, Mission Impossible: 3 and is currently working on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the seventh installment in the Star Wars film series, which will open on Dec. 13 of this year. He is also the Founder and President of Bad Robot Productions, a television and film production company.

Fantasty-narrative nerds Colbert and Abrams will be joining each other on stage at NJPAC to discuss their ideas, influences and creative work. Proceeds made from the event will be donated to the Montclair Film Festival, New Jersey’s leading film non-profit. The Montclair Film Festival is an organization that provides a platform for all filmmakers – this means not just in New Jersey, but around the entire U.S. and world! The main objective of the Montclair Film Festival is to empower and educate the the region’s diverse community and artistic culture.

Colbert has been known to be an extreme advocate and show incredible support to the organization, so this is going to be a very meaningful night to those involved with the Montclair Film Festival. “The event is beneficial for the festival because it not only puts us more so on the map as a serious festival, but it involves New Jersey in a bigger way,” said Joe Redl, employee of the 2015 festival. “It gives us credibility that makes people see New Jersey as a state that respects art. The event not only brings people to New Jersey, but it allows outside authority and opinion to actually think we have an artistic and diversely artistic side.”
