Fantasia comes to Wellmont.

American Idol fans get ready. Fantasia Barrino, more commonly known as just Fantasia, is coming to the Wellmont Theater at the end of the summer! Fantasia will be gracing the stage on August 31.  She is known for winning the third season of American Idol in 2004. Fantasia released her first single “I Believe” after her win, which made it’s way to the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100.

After her win, Fantasia’s first album Free Yourself was not only certified platinum by the RIAA, but it gained her three Grammy nominations in 2006. Since then, Fantasia has been busy. She won her first Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for “Bittersweet.” Since then, she has been on Broadway, on the silver screen and re-appearing as a guest on American Idol.

According to her website, Fantasia announced in February 2014 that she will soon be inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame in October later this year.

Fantasia is most well-known for her songs “When I See U,” “Without Me” and “Lose to Win.” According to her website, Fantasia is most excited about her recent album. “I know that every artist says that their albums are like their babies, but Side Effects of You really is my baby,” said Fantasia. “Besides the music, this album means so much to me because it represents the amazing creative relationships I made and the thoughts and ideas that were spoken into my life during the recording process. This project came together right in the nick of time.”

Tickets are still available through, and range from $55-$85 for this show. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8. There is limited parking near the Wellmont, so visitors are encouraged to arrive early!

For food before or after the show, take advantage of the many restaurants up and down Bloomfield Avenue, located right next to the Wellmont. Raymond’s on Church Street is always pleasant, and only two blocks from the theater.  Perhaps maybe something a little more exotic: Mesob’s Ethiopian Restaurant is right on Bloomfield Avenue.
