Marcel Bakery and Kitchen Introduces a Great Deal for the Early Birds of Montclair
Award-winning chef Meny Vaknin sure knows his way around the restaurant business. Vaknin, originally from Israel and of Moroccan descent, now owns two establishments in Montclair, MishMish (opened in 2014 at 215 Glenridge Ave) and Marcel Kitchen and Bakery (631 ½ Valley Road), both of which allow the owner’s culinary background to shine through. His style is influenced by his training at the French Culinary Institute
and the culinary styles of Morocco which were passed down to him by his mother and grandmothers. The newest addition of Vaknin’s, Marcel Bakery and Kitchen, serves mostly breakfast and lunch, along with pastries and coffee, with an Israeli flare. Marcel opened toward the end of 2017, named for Meny Vaknin’s grandfather.
Marcel Bakery and Kitchen provides a very homey feel, with cozy chairs and long tables for customers to sit and enjoy their meals with some company, or just relax with a cup of coffee and a baked good. Marcel’s does not stray far from Vaknin’s Israeli roots, serving Israeli style Bourekas and a Jerusalem Grain Bagel topped with smoked salmon, cream cheese, and red onion.
Vaknin is a winner of the Food Network competition, Chopped. His appearances the show led to a rave review of MishMish from the New York Times, making both of his establishments busier than ever. About one month ago, Marcel Kitchen and Bakery was named a finalist for Best New Restaurant for the 2018 Garden State Culinary Arts Awards.
Currently, at Marcel, Vaknin is offering a special deal for customers. When Marcel patrons purchase one of Meny Vaknin’s delicious and homemade baked goods, they will also get a nice and hot cup of coffee. This new deal sounds like the perfect treat. Be sure to get there early though: this special deal only runs from 6:30 to 8:00 AM on weekdays. The bargain will last until June 30th. I suggest that readers act while they can; Marcel’s is almost always full of hungry customers pining for Meny Vaknin’s high-quality creations.
