Sarah Silverman is “The Jewish Princess.”
Before concluding her spring tour in New Jersey, Sarah Silverman will be at the Warner Theater in Washington, DC on April 25. Silverman will make two stops in Jersey, first at the Wellmont Theater in Montclair on April 26 and at the Borgata Casino in Atlantic City on April 27.
Sarah Silverman’s tickets are currently on sale at the theater box office or online via the Wellmont website. Prices range from $45 for balcony tickets and $65 for orchestra seats.
Stand-up comedy is generally a man’s world. However, Sarah Silverman stands her ground with her bubbly and satirical personality. Silverman began doing stand-up comedy at age 17 in New York City while attending NYU.
Aside from being a comedian, Sarah Silverman is also a singer, musician, writer and actress. In the mid 1990’s, Silverman joined the cast of Saturday Night Live as a writer and performer. It was not until early 2007 that her career began to gain recognition when starring and producing The Sarah Silverman Program on Comedy Central. In 2009, Silverman received an Emmy nomination for Best Actress in a Comedic Series for her performance in The Sarah Silverman Program.
A central theme in her routines has been her Jewish heritage, which is why Sarah Silverman is often referred to as the “Jewish Princess.” Silverman often pushes the envelope to get controversial, yet meaningful, messages across to her audience. Silverman uses her quirkiness and innocence to deliver hard hitting social issues and messages such as sexism, racial discrimination and inequality.
While most of her comedic themes are hot topic issues, Sarah Silverman is able to deliver her message in a humoristic manner that leaves the audience laughing. As a spokesperson for the Center for Reproductive Right’s, Silverman addressed the “bros” in a satirical and humoristic PSA for the Draw the Line campaign.
Sarah Silverman made use of her sweet and childlike voice when cast as Vanellope Von Schweetz in the Disney movie Wreck-It Ralph. Silverman has expressed that the similarities with that character go beyond the precocious voice. As an outcast and unlikely hero, Vanellope and Ralph, main characters in the movie, prove that our biggest secrets and shames are what make people shine in the end. As a young girl, Silverman struggled with body insecurities, and as an adult these insecurities became her stand-up comedy ammunition.
J.A.S.H. (Just Attitude So Hey), a Google-funded YouTube channel, is one of Sarah Silverman’s latest projects, which launched at SXSW in early March. This channel will feature experimental comedy from Silverman, and fellow comedians Tim and Eric, Michael Cera and Reggie Watts.
