The Bar Method Montclair, located at 493 Bloomfield Ave., is one of the hundreds of locations around the country and has been providing the Montclair community with fun, muscle toning exercises.

If you’ve never been to a barre class or even heard of it, the exercises aren’t like your typical gym workout! The workout is broken down into eight different areas of focus on your body. The eight workouts are arm work, thigh work, seat work, round back, flat back, curl, back dancing and the final stretch.

During arm work, the workouts consist of shoulder walks, one-weight lifts, push-ups, reverse push-ups and stretching, all which help sculpt your upper body while giving your muscles definition as well as increasing flexibility. During thigh work, the workouts consist of legs together, waterski and stretch, all which help slim down your thighs while strengthening and aligning your muscles. During seat work, the workouts consist of standing seat, fold over, pretzel and stretch, all which help lift your seat muscles, tone your waist and improve your posture.

Round back is the act of rounding out your back which improves and increases your hamstring flexibility while flattening your abdomen and increases your stamina. Flat back is the act of flattening out your back on a surface which helps flatten your abdomens while burning a copious amount of calories for a leaner body.

During curling, the workouts consist of high curl with ball and low curl, both which sculpt your abdominal region while gently stretching your back. Back dancing is a form of a workout that firms your seat muscles by working out your glutes, hamstrings and inner thighs while stretching your lower back. And last but not least, the final stretch that overall increases flexibility and locates and releases tension resulting in renewed energy and a calmer mind.

“I’m a huge barre workout fanatic and before I started, all the other workouts I tried, I never saw the results I see when doing barre,” said Montclair resident Michele Reagen. “The Bar Method Montclair is amazing and I suggest everyone tries it.”
