Fun Run: Third Annual Mountie Pride Event

Help raise money with the Montclair’s Fun Run.

The third annual Mountie Pride Fun Run will be held this year on Sunday, Sept. 30 at Woodman Field in Montclair. This fun and charitable event is co-sponsored by MFEE’s True Blue Spirit athletic initiative and the Montclair High School Athletic Department. It starts at 11 a.m. and will once again feature the Community Pavilion, a 5k run, a one mile walk and also a new additional 5k competitive heat.

A huge partnership in this event is True Blue Spirit, which is an initiative by the Montclair Board of Education along with the Montclair Fund for Educational Excellence (MFEE) that was developed to benefit the Montclair Public School district and ultimately, the whole Montclair community. True Blue Spirit “enhances the benefits and opportunities to the Montclair community generated by the athletic programs and facilities available throughout the Montclair School district.” Some major achievements throughout the past few years of the True Blue Spirit initiative include launching the Montclair High School crew team in 2002, renovating the Furlong Field House along with outfitting its fitness and weight room in 2008, and installing soccer/lacrosse and softball scoreboards on Fortunato Field in 2012.

Last year’s event was hugely successful with over 35 MHS sports teams, clubs, academic groups and community-based sponsored all gathered to enjoy the festivities. There were approximately 400 race participants who attended, and top finishers in the 5k race Caton Day at time 22:28, Justin Francoise at 19:12, middle schoolers Yael Gelman at 29:59 and Stefan and Sebastian Urquidi at 19:44, and elementary schoolers Julia Bachman at 25:23 and Alejandro Spivey at 28:02. There was also a Group Spirit Award, which was given to the MHS Varsity Cheerleaders. Last year’s event raised over $25,000, which was all forwarded to help support the athletic programs and Montclair High School.

Registration for the event is $20 for adults and $10 for students, and included is one limited edition string bag per person. You can download the registration form mfee.org or register online.

There will also be Sponsorship opportunities available starting from $250 all the way to $2,500. All sponsors will receive online recognition and, at the event, a table at the Community Pavilion.
