The family-friendly Tour de Montclair will be celebrated with an Open Streets Festival.
The town of Montclair has been longing for the return of Tour de Montclair. Bike & Walk Montclair has heard the thoughts of the community and has decided to make that wish come true! On Sunday, Oct. 2, the signature event, Tour de Montclair will be back in Montclair Center. This family-friendly bike ride will highlight sights within the four wards of Montclair that are normally difficult to see when you’re in a vehicle. There is a 12 and 6 mile option for riders, beginning and ending on Glenridge Ave. The ride’s finish will be celebrated at an Open Streets Festival! This event will be held rain or shine.
“The Tour de Montclair is a unique town wide event which celebrates our community spirit through the shared experience of simply riding a bike through town, connecting neighborhoods and people,” said Bike & Walk Montclair’s President Paul Mickiewicz.
With over 1000 participants in prior years, this year’s Tour de Montclair, promises to be memorable. Thanks to Schumacher Insurance, they will be presenting the Open Streets Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Glenridge Ave. in Montclair Center. Expect upbeat music, great food, community partners and parklets – mini urban public spaces – for all of the community to enjoy.
“The Tour de Montclair definitely makes the community a better place to live, work and play for the precise reason that biking is a great way to do all three: you can commute by bike, shop by bike, have fun and get a nice, low-impact workout no extra charge! Sometimes we all need a little reminder of how good life can be on a bike, and events like the Tour de Montclair provide that kind of jumpstart. Ride on!” said Nick De Toustain, Bike & Walk Montclair’s Vice-President.
“We are an volunteer organization. The Board of Directors and our wonderful volunteers all work hard on projects that bring them a sense of satisfaction. I am a newer board member and have worked over the past two years on bike education and member communications. I love working with a group that is passionate about protecting our environment, improving street safety and getting out of their cars to exercise by walking and riding bikes,” said Jean Lyons, one of the board members of Bike & Walk Montclair.
