Broadway on a Budget: A Summer Guide to the Great White Way

One of the best things about Montclair is the fact that it is only a hop, skip and jump away from New York City.  Now that school is out, trips to the Big Apple can be more frequent.  However, Broadway ticket prices do not get any less expensive.  There are still steps Broadway enthusiasts can take to see a show without breaking the bank, emptying their wallets or rummaging through the couch cushions for change.

This week, take a trip to the fantastic, magical world of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella.” The classic tale of a homely servant girl, an evil stepmother, a glass slipper and love at first sight finally made a home for itself at the Broadway Theater on 53rd Street between 7th and 8th Avenue.

The Tony Award-winning show retells the story of Cinderella with a modern-day twist perfect for all audiences.  Douglas Carter Beane’s sharp and witty new take on this classic love story has adults laughing throughout the entire show, and the rags-to-riches princess story always goes over well with children.  With beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein tunes and some truly magical onstage costume transformations, this show is definitely a spectacle not to be missed.

According to the show’s site, tickets for the show range from $45 to $147.  For students who do not have that kind of money lying around, “Cinderella” holds Student Rush tickets at the box office for that day’s performance.  This means that any student with a valid school I.D. can go to the Broadway Theater on the day of their choice to buy tickets to the show for $32.  Tickets are limited and are given on a first come, first serve basis.  Each person is allowed to purchase up to two tickets each.  The number of available rush tickets are subject to change.

“Cinderella” stars Laura Osnes as Cinderella and Santino Fontana as Prince Topher.  For a full list of the entire cast and crew, visit their website.
