Plan your next party at Charmed Beading Studio, and leave with unique, one of a kind jewelry.
Charmed Beading Studio, located at 41 Church Street, in Montclair, N.J. is a locally owned, Do It Yourself (D.I.Y.), full-service bead store known for their custom work. Owner Kumarie Persaud first opened up the store about three years ago on Bloomfield Avenue, and switched locations to Church Street a year ago. Persaud, being a Montclair native mother herself, has had her hand at beading for quite some time before opening up Charmed Beading Studio.
“I started to make jewelry just by myself about 10 years ago, and about three years ago I decided it was time to open up a store,” said Persaud. “My first one was similar to this but on Bloomfield Avenue, and then about a year ago is when I moved here to this location, and it’s been really fun. I also teach at the Montclair Public School in the Enrichment program, as well as the Montclair Adult School where I teach a jewelry making class. Because I teach in a public school, I realized that a lot of kids like jewelry and being able to make their own, and it’s a fun thing for them to do, beading, making their own bracelets and necklaces.”
Persaud has allowed Charmed Beading Studio to be much more than your typical jewelry store. She offers kids birthday parties, a ladies night out, Girl Scout troop parties, Brownie troop parties and of course people can come in anytime and make their own jewelry. She even has a wide selection of men’s bracelets to choose from, and has men that come in just as frequently as the women do to make their own jewelry.
“For the kids birthday parties, there is not a whole lot to do around here, especially in the winter months when it is cold out,” said Persaud. “This is the perfect place for them to come, stay warm and be creative. The kids birthday parties, as well as the Girl Scout and Brownie troop parties, last about an hour and a half and they get to make two projects. They can choose to make a necklace, keychain, bookmark or bracelet, and customize it to their own liking. For the ladies night out, their parties are about two hours long and they usually come in and have an idea of exactly what they want to make, choosing from my selection of beads. All parties are allowed to bring their own food, wine, desserts, etc. and we will provide the setting and the tools to create a memorable night!”
Persaud also offers a lot of bead and jewelry classes and has a variety of lessons that people can come in and take. She offers the same classes and lessons to the Montclair Adult School as well.
Charmed Beading Studio has a wide selection of tools and beads, both semi-precious and precious stones to choose from. From African and ethnic beads to glass, wood, clay, crystal and preciosa beads, you name it, they have it. Persaud also stocks charms, pearls, Czech glass and Japanese seed beads, as well as amber and coral to “help you to release the artist within you.” When it comes to creating your beaded art, they offer tools, thread, wire and glue to help.
“I also offer jewelry repair, whether you have a bracelet that needs to be restrung or a necklace that just simply needs a new clasp, or a favorite pair of pearls needs to be reknotted,” said Persaud. “We will repair them for you. Our location comes in handy because often times the repair does not take long at all, so our customers can just go to a nearby cafe or bistro and get a smoothie or latte while they wait.”
Charmed Beading Studio will be running a special 20 percent off store-wide sale for Mother’s Day, which may even run until Easter. To find out more information, you can visit their website at charmedbeading.com or like them on Facebook at facebook.com/CharmedBeadingStudio.
