Montclair Dispatch Awards 2017 Journalism Scholarship

Joe Michalitsianos, a student journalist for The Montclair Dispatch, was awarded the E.M. Kennedy scholarship for investigative reporting. Joe is a rising senior at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ.

The Montclair Dispatch is pleased to announce that Joe Michalitsianos is the 2017 recipient of the E.M. Kennedy Scholarship, which is awarded to a passionate and tenacious journalist at The Montclair Dispatch. Joe is a 2014 graduate of Montclair High School.

Joe has always showed great initiative and persevered in the face of adversity with every article written. He approached and uncovered the difficult stories and did not hesitate to ask the difficult questions. Joe showed audacity while questioning those in power; something that impressed The Montclair Dispatch editors and publishers. We see in Joe the telltale signs of a great investigative reporter.

The Montclair Dispatch is proud to award Joe with this $500 scholarship as he will be studying at the London School of Economics this summer studying international journalism. Joe will be seeking to gain even more knowledge about media studies and journalism. We are not only impressed, but extremely proud of the the investigative reporting Joe has done and will continue to do here at The Montclair Dispatch.

The E.M. Kennedy Scholarship is named after the late Eleanor Mary Kennedy who was a lifelong and tireless advocate for social and civic justice. Kennedy was a leader in the Open Government struggles and pioneered the use of investigative methods now used as common tools by today’s investigative reporters.

The Montclair Dispatch, a local weekly newspaper, is the leading media outlet in the greater New York region for aspiring students in the media arts. Editors, Investigative Reporters, Writers, Photographers, Web-developers, Layout Artists and more are given a starting opportunity into the field of media arts at the Montclair Dispatch. Students from Montclair State University, Seton Hall University, Ithaca College, Rutgers University, Kenyon College, Columbia University, Drew University, Smith College, Montclair High School, et al. have all interned at The Montclair Dispatch.
